The Herb Garden is just outside the town of Almonte, Ontario on the Old Almonte Road. We visited the gardens mid July of 2013. My Nikon D600 must have been in the shop again because these were taken with my D5000, my backup camera. We got there early in the afternoon on a beautiful sunny day. The light was harsh and I spent most of my time searching for shady spots. The Herb Garden’s Facebook page says that the fifteen acre site has one 200-year-old cedar log barn, two 150 year cedar log old barns [art galleries], one labyrinth, many great picnic areas and a million gorgeous spots for pictures. We started our tour on a small trail on the property where I captured a few dragonflies and moths. The Herb Garden hosts weddings in its heritage barn and they were either setting up or taking down preparations for a wedding so we didn’t see the inside.
I was able to see some of the gardens but again it was so hot and I had to be careful not to be roasted alive. The Daylilies were out in force but they were in direct sunlight so I captured them mostly in the background to some charming decorations. My faithful companions spent their time sitting in the shade and were very happy to leave when I came back from my wanderings. The good thing about coming to see the gardens on a hot summer day was that I had them mostly to myself.
